  1. Wyatt, Thomas c. 1503-1542. English poet. He
  2. was employed on diplomatic missions by Henry
  3. VIII, and in 1536 was imprisoned for a time
  4. in the Tower of London, suspected of having
  5. been the lover of Henry's second wife, Anne
  6. Boleyn. In 1541 Wyatt was again imprisoned on
  7. charges of treason. With the Earl of Surrey,
  8. he pioneered the sonnet in England.
